This is by far our largest project dealing with SharePoint because it is a product creation project using SharePoint as opposed to enterprise implementations. This project included all aspects of SharePoint as well as Office Business Applications, Visual Studio Extensibility, Domain Specific Language, AJAX, and Expert Part.
This is a key product offering for the leader in practice management. Their flagship product, is an integrated, comprehensive solution that enables law firms to improve information visibility and access, boost productivity and billable hours, and increase profitability. Capabilities include time and billing, practice management, financial management, business intelligence, matter management, records management, professional productivity, portals, mobility applications, and more.
It is a complex solution, involving: Visual Studio Extensibility, OBA, Domain Specific Language, AJAX, Expert Part, Windows Communication Foundation, MOSS 2007 services and content development (webparts, content injection), MS SQL Server.
The data layer is developed using a graphical interface created with Visual Studio 2008 Extensibility tools. Once done, the user has at his disposal a web based wizard (integrated in MOSS), providing instruments for defining visual structures for MOSS webparts. The communication between data layer and the available web tools is implemented using Windows Communication Foundation services.
The installation process is standardized, using regular windows setup for the data layer tools and a feature based installation process for MOSS components.
